Winter Sorority Recruitment Outfit Guide (pt. 2)

When looking through my analytics to determine blog post ideas for this year, I noticed that for the last two years, my most popular post has been my winter sorority recruitment outfit guide! I shared this the winter of my sophomore year, a year after I had gone through winter recruitment myself, and I feel that now it could use a little update provided that it's so well-loved amongst many of you going through the process year after year!

Internship Outfit Ideas (Under $100)

It's the official first day of my internship!!! Woooo!! I can't wait to see what this summer has in store for me and keep you all updated on how my internship goes. This was a very popular post last summer, so here we are again with another round of internship outfit ideas! Really anyone working in a business casual setting could benefit from this little round-up of work appropriate attire; I know I am always looking for ways to update my "work wardrobe." Especially since this is my third internship, I have grown tired of the clothes I've been wearing for the last two summers and in need of a few new pieces. Not to mention, this summer I will be surrounded by over 100 other interns and working for a retail company, so I definitely want to step up my game!

Spring Dress Round-Up

Being in college, I always forget how many new dresses I used to "need" each spring in high school. Last year I went to my fair share of date parties and formals being in a sorority and having a handful of guy friends in fraternities, but it's not really the same when you live in a dorm and have 30 sorority sisters with dresses to borrow at a moment's notice! This year I am in the market for a pretty dress to wear in London on Easter Sunday, but I've already started getting a few questions from girls looking for prom dresses, wedding guest dresses (jealous!) and other fun events coming this spring. Although this round-up of dresses is majority geared towards Easter frocks, I plan to do another installment of dresses suitable for prom or fancier events later this week or next!

Complete Winter Sorority Recruitment Outfit Guide

This post has been a highly requested one this fall. I went through winter sorority recruitment last year and I have been getting so many questions about what to wear during the rounds. Recruitment is different at every school, but for the most part it's always a weather-related disaster when it comes to planning outfits. Southern schools typically recruit in the fall when it's way too hot outside, and midwest/east coast schools recruit in the winter when it's snowing and freezing cold. Who thought that was a good idea? Between standing outside houses in freezing temperatures and sitting in a stuffy house or classroom, there is definitely an art to layering for winter recruitment. Here are my tips, suggestions, and ideas (warning! this post is a long one!):

Holiday Dresses & Shoes

I'm starting to think about what I want to wear for Christmas and New Year's this year, and I love all twelve of the party dresses/jumpsuits I've rounded up today! Most are under $200, but my favorite is this velvet jumpsuit that's even under $100. However, I always find the most fun part of holiday attire to be all the shoes... velvet, pom-poms, bows, ribbons... it's like wearing a present on your feet!

Thanksgiving Outfit Guide

I can hardly believe Thanksgiving is two weeks away. I feel like I say that every year, but the holidays are just so anticipated all year long that when they finally arrive it's like a dream come true! Thanksgiving is, of course, one of my favorite holidays. I'm excited to spend it with my mom's side of the family at my grandparent's house in St. Louis this year. Our Thanksgiving celebrations in St. Louis are always super casual, but I love wearing something cute and festive for the holiday. Below I am sharing casual, semi-dressy, and dressy outfits to indulge you in the ultimate Thanksgiving Outfit Guide (warning: lots of velvet, denim, and leather down below!)

3 Holiday Kick-off Gift Guides

Hello, hello! Today I am so excited to kick off a weekly gift guide series to take us into the holiday season. I know it's early, but I got excited (I may or may not have stayed up way too late doing this last night...). After spontaneously venturing down to Chicago this past weekend, I came back to school feeling refreshed and inspired, albeit a little exhausted. Nonetheless, here we are already in the second week of November, and I'd be lying if I said I haven't started to think about revamping my holiday playlist and ogling over holiday gift ideas. Too soon? Sorry about it ;)

Your Avocado Toast Guide to NYC

While I was consuming guac the other day (who's surprised?), I realized it's pretty obvious how much  I love avocado toast, given that I talk about it on the blog at least once a week. I've been in New York a lot this year, and I always make avocado toast a brunch priority during my time in the city. What's better than an avocado toast guide in one of the best cities in the world?!

Of course, I haven't tried all of the toasts out there, so if you have a favorite avo toast in New York, you must share it with me! As for now, here are the places I'd recommend:

Spring Break 2017 Shopping Guide

I am so excited about spring break this year. Because my spring break falls the week before my brother's, my dad is taking us on a mini ski weekend during the overlap, but I will be heading to Miami with my best friend for the week prior! I am so, so excited because I love traveling with friends, and I haven't been to Miami since freshman year of high school. It will be especially fun, too, because it'll be just the two of us, so we can lounge by the pool, hang out at the beach, or do as much shopping and exploring as we want to. I seriously can't wait!

I've already started looking into a few outfits that I'll want to pack for the trip, and I've made this fun Spring Break guide to share with all of you as well. I am thinking of making a "resort" tab at the top, which would be similar to the "shop" tab, but all vacation clothes/accessories. This way all of you can come here for vacation packing essentials and fun pieces... let me know if that's something you'd like!

Without further adieu...

Do you have Spring Break plans? I would love to hear!! Also, if there are any Miami suggestions out there, I am all ears :)

Red Dresses

As a member of Alpha Phi, who's philanthropy is women's heart health, we celebrate an annual Red Dress Gala in February, because this month is Cardiac Awareness month! It's fun too, because it's Valentine's Day in just a week, and of course we are all thinking of love, our hearts, and the like at the same time. How convenient ;)

The Red Dress Gala for my chapter at Lehigh is coming up in a few weeks, and I've been on the hunt for the perfect red dress! If you're making any Valentine's Day plans yourself, or getting a head start on prom dresses, maybe you'll find this round-up of reds useful as well...

I'm not huge into red, but it's fun to have an opportunity to wear something different from my typical black, navy, or other neutral-colored dress for once! I'm especially loving that velvet option, which is on major sale right now! Shop all of the dresses below:

Dorm Shopping Guide: Rugs + Throw Pillows

Hello, hello! Or should I say rabbit, rabbit?! Happy August, my favorite month of the year!

I'm so excited for this week in posts because I'm officially starting to share a few of my dorm sneak-peeks, all starting with today's shopping guide. The next few days also happen to be a collaboration with Caroline, Renee and Nicole! Today we will each be sharing our picks for shopping for a different dorm category, so read on below for the best places to find rugs and throw pillows, and be sure to check out Caroline's post for bedding, Renee's for desk organization, and Nicole's for closet and clothes organization!

When it came time to decide on a theme and overall vibe for my dorm, I knew getting the area rug was the first thing I'd want to do. Finding a rug is a pretty big step in creating the foundation for your dorm's style (I mean, it literally goes on the floor), so right next to bedding I'd say that you pretty much have a dorm dynamic duo necessary for kicking everything off. I've already shared my dorm rug in this post, but I found a few great websites in my search that I think are wonderful places to find good options. Most dorms work well with a 5x7 size rug, or something similar to that size.
Shop my picks:

Another aspect of my dorm that I am really excited to get creative with is my bed. Caroline is sharing bedding on her blog today, but I'm sharing my favorite pillows to add on top! There's something about rugs and pillows that just add such a homey, cozy vibe to a room, especially when throw pillows are loaded up on the bed.
Shop my picks:

Etsy // Target // Anthropologie // Lulu & Georgia

Where have you found cute rugs and throw pillows? I'd love to hear of new places to look.

What to Wear for Senior Photos

I took my Senior Photos in Rhode Island last August, and I know a ton of other girls at my school took theirs around the same time as well. With senior photos just around the corner for the class of 2017, there comes a little bit of stress with what to wear, how to do hair and makeup, and where to shoot. Luckily, professional photographers are pros for a reason, so they’re good at picking locations, telling you how to tilt your head for the perfect look, and they’re even pretty good about making sure all flyaways are tame and there isn’t any mascara on your eyelids. However, one thing that you have to do before you meet up with your photographer is pick out a couple of outfits, or at least a few different tops for your shoot.

When I did my senior pictures I wore white jeans, and I brought one short-sleeve top, a sleeveless top, and a sweater. I did my photos on the Cliff Walk in Newport so I knew I wouldn’t want to be in a dress or skirt, but I always think it’s cute when girls do one outfit with pants, one with a skirt, and another with a dress. I wouldn't suggest doing more than three outfits because you might feel overwhelmed when you’re trying to fit in all of your outfit changes during the actual shoot, and it’s also rare that you will actually find a place to change that isn’t behind a bush, a tree, or your mom (it's true).

When it comes to picking the outfit, here are a few tips:

1. Make sure you're comfortable // This is extremely obvious, but it's important to remember that if you're feeling uncomfortable, even if that means you're just a little too hot or too chilly in your outfit, you won't be focused on smiling and looking good for the camera. Rather, you'll be stressed about how you're sweating, or you're shirt is poking out, etc.

2. Patterns are cute, but steer clear of stripes, graphics and plaid // I think it's really cute when girls wear Lilly tops or dresses, for example, because the patterns and bright colors peek out in the picture and add a little personality. However, stripes and plaid are notorious for just not photographing well, and occasionally making people look wide. Stripes and plaid are also more distracting to the eye because of the symmetrical/geometric pattern. Graphics are also generally too random and casual. However, if you're really against looking too basic in a solid top, remember that fun textures and detailing always look good, like lace or crochet.

3. Pick a flattering sleeve and neckline // In general, your outfit should be a flattering one, of course. That's another obvious one! You want to look good, so don't wear something that doesn't make you look great. If you’re self-conscious about your arms, avoid sleeveless or cap-sleeve shirts and tank tops, as they tend to make arms look fuller. For necklines, it's easy for collars to get messed up if they're popped, so only choose a polo or button down if you prefer to keep your color down (I personally rarely keep my collar down!), and since off-shoulder is trending, I just want to point out that you might run the risk of looking like you went sans clothing if you opt for a top like that.

4. Know what colors look good on you // This is pretty basic, but make sure you're not wearing something that might make you look washed out, blend in with your hair/skin, etc.

Overall, I would recommend picking outfits that are easy to change in and out of, don't really worry about shoes too much (trust me, the pictures people end up using for senior photos are rarely full body pictures, which makes sense because in a yearbook you want to focus on your face and pic a closer shot), and try to have at least one top be a solid color as it's the least distracting and often most flattering!

Graduation Gift Ideas

I may have missed the prime time to post on this particular topic given that many of my friends have already celebrated their graduations, but with the spirit of this post and all of the graduation parties to come, it can't hurt to think a little more thoughtfully about what gifts to pick out for your friends to celebrate their hard work!

What to Wear: Graduation Party Outfit Guide

I can't really believe this is it. The last four years of high school are all wrapping up for me this week.... tomorrow is my last day of school, followed by my last exams, and then Friday is my graduation! My graduation party will be on Saturday since all of my family is going to be in town, but I can't even wrap my head around how many Facebook event invites keep popping up in my notifications for invites to even more graduation parties! I seriously feel like I need to start writing everything out on a calendar. I swear my weekends feel booked until July! I'm not complaining though, there really is no better way to celebrate four years of hard work and accomplishments not only for yourself, but for your friends too, than by dressing up and having fun.

With all of the invites of course comes that (not-so) little pressure to wear a cute new outfit to every single party. This definitely won't be the case for me as I have my fair share of summer dresses and Lilly skirts that I'm planning to re-wear this season, but there's no harm in finding a few new pieces to don as well. I've shopped around for the cutest summer skirts and casual dresses, as well as tops and sandals to form the official graduation party guest outfit guide! Whether your attending your boyfriend's backyard barbecue, your best friend's open house, or a country club soiree, you'll definitely find something below that you'll want to wear.

Holiday City Guide

I'm well aware that Milwaukee is not everyone's number one destination fantasy when it comes to booking a holiday vacation, but my little city has some amazingly fun events and things to do around this time of year that I figured I might as well share! Not to mention, this could be a little inspiration for you to hunt around your city and find things going on.

Holiday Tea // One of my favorite things to do, no matter what time of year, is spend an afternoon at high tea with my mom, aunts, or cousins. There is nothing that makes me feel fancier than an afternoon spent dressed up and sipping on tea and munching on sandwiches and sweets. I have gone to tea at both the Plaza in New York and Harrods in London and I have been dying to try tea in Milwaukee at the Pfister Hotel and Watt's Tea Shop. Most tea rooms offer a fun holiday afternoon tea event, so be sure to look around for one available to you! Seriously, you will not regret it. Afternoon tea is a fabulous experience.

Carriage Rides // I spend a lot of time downtown on the weekends with my friends, and during the holidays you can find horse-drawn carriages decked out in ribbons and wreaths wandering the blocks just waiting to give you a ride! I took a ride last year with a few friends and it was such a cute way to see the city in the snow.

A Christmas Carol // Every year, the Milwaukee Repertory Theater puts on an incredible production of A Christmas Carol, and it really is such a wonderful holiday tradition. I went last year on Christmas Eve with my family and we made a whole night out of it by dressing up and starting off with a delicious dinner downtown. I didn't think I was one for plays or musicals, because I haven't always enjoyed the like in the past, but I loved this festive experience and I really recommend you check out the holiday musicals or plays at a theater in your city! When I was little and we lived in Chicago, we used to see the Nutcracker in Chicago downtown every year, and it was such a fun tradition. And tell me this wouldn't be the perfect dress for the occasion!

What are some fun holiday traditions and events in your city?

A Guide to Picking a Monogram Necklace

Hi everyone! I get a lot of questions about where my monogram necklace is from, what size it is, how long my chain is, etc. Monogram necklaces can be tricky to shop for because there is such a wide variety of options. Today I will share the details on my necklace and how to find the monogram necklace that you like best!

Untitled #350

Silver, gold, or acrylic. | Most people decide to go with a silver or gold necklace, but acrylic necklaces are a trendier, more fun, spin on the classic necklace. I would recommend that sticking to silver or gold for your first monogram necklace is the best option because you can wear more with your necklace.

One or two connecting points | When I was picking out my monogram necklace, I knew I needed it to have two connecting points. I personally think it's cuter when the monogram is being "held" on the chain, rather than just dangling from it.

Pendant size | Most people stick to a one inch pendant because that's super average and looks good on everyone. However, I think mini pendant's are super cute, and large pendant's make a statement when worn with a simple outfit.

Script | Monograms necklaces come in a variety of fonts, and this can be the tipping point for deciding on your necklace. My necklace has the letters in a really intricate script so that you sort of have to search for the letters, they aren't spread out and profound like other necklaces. Font and size of letters is a really important part of picking out your necklace because the monogram is what the necklace is all about!

My Necklace... is a silver, one inch, monogrammed necklace with two connecting points and an 18 inch chain. You can purchase the exact necklace {HERE}

What does your monogram necklace look like?
