Fall Capsule Wardrobe

When it comes to getting dressed for school this time of year, I have to be very strategic about how I layer my outfits. There are few things that make me more uncomfortable than freezing on my walk to class only to show up dripping in sweat under my scarf, parka, and sweaters. Fortunately, I've figured out my formula by now and have found that creating a capsule wardrobe for yourself makes getting dressed seamless and successful, morning after morning.

Here are my essentials:

DENIM // I try to limit how often I wear leggings to class. Most days I opt for jeans, solely because they make me feel more put together. My favorite everyday jeans are my Levi 501's and Zara high rise straight leg. My favorite black jeans are my BDG skinnies and these J. Crew kick-flares.

JACKETS // I think every girl needs a puffer coat (pre-parka season, a cute cropped puffer is so essential!). My Hunter puffer is my favorite, but if I were in the market for a new one I would without a doubt purchase the Artizia Super Puff shorty! Another jacket essential this time of year is a shearling or moto jacket... something warm and cozy but stylish enough to wear out at night! I recently purchased this jacket because it's such a steal and I'm soooooo excited about it!!!!

SCARVES // Adding a big, chic, neutral scarf really makes any cold-weather ensemble look stylish and fabulous.

SWEATERS // A few neutral, comfortable, simple but cute sweaters are perfect for days when you want to feel a little bit more put together in class, or maybe even have a meeting or event to attend. Paired with jeans and booties, a sweater + scarf combo is the easiest, best fall outfit option in my opinion! You can check out this post for my favorite fall sweaters under $50!

SHOES // My fall shoe staples include little hiker boots (for once it gets icy/snowy), everyday sneakers (I love my new FILA Ray pair and dying to get my hands on Veja's!) and flat ankle boots.

The best part about having a couple of pieces in each category that you love is that whatever combinations you come up with, your outfits will suit your own style, and be composed of those pieces you want to reach for day after day.

What is your fall wardrobe composed of?

  1. I love this post! My fall capsule wardrobe is pretty much this but also includes a medium weight fitted black turtleneck- looks very euro when done with an all black outfit and moto jacket, can throw on the neutral scarf when its colder, and it also looks great peeking out underneath an overcoat when it gets colder!

    1. Thank you! Totally with you on the black turtleneck! I love an all black outfit and little pops of neutral, too. So chic.
