I'm so excited to deep dive into our living room refresh today! We left off in April with the story of our new couch, and a springy moodboard for our space. Since then, we've gotten art, throw pillows, and a fabulous antique side table that have transformed the room. Things have finally started to come together and I am so happy with how our living room is turning out!
Let's first talk about the story behind our new painting. Do you know how hard it is to find new art?! Ugh, I forgot what a challenge I had a similar struggle in my last apartment, leaving the walls blank similarly for over a year before I landed on the naked barbies. This time around, I not only struggled with what vibe I wanted for an art piece, but I really struggled with the size of the wall. The wall our couch sits on is a huge wall, and big art can be so, so expensive. I wanted something special and colorful and large, but I couldn't find anything.
Fast forward to March, when Homeworthy reached out and asked to feature our apartment. I was equal parts honored and excited, and completely panicked that we'd never find a new couch, art, or anything else that I felt like I needed to get out apartment to a good spot to actually share. I started scouring online, researching all day everyday for couches, for art, for everything, and nothing was working out.
Of course, you now all know the couch story, and that worked out wonderfully. So let's talk about how we finally got art!
The day before we got our new couch, I saw a Tik Tok of a Meg Indy painting in an apartment, and I immediately reached out to ask if she'd be willing to commission a piece for our apartment. I met Meg in 2023 at a photoshoot for Swells, and she is just the kindest, sweetest person ever. I was over the moon when Meg so kindly agreed to make us a piece and work with my tight timeline. I'm not kidding, I first chatted with Meg on April fourth, and the piece was in our apartment on April 26. Working with Meg was such a dream; she is not only so talented and creative, she's just so kind and delightful.
I love the colors and energy of the piece; it is so special. She was able to make us a 48 X 60 canvas, which takes up amazing space on the wall. In an ideal world, we would have done a 60 x 72 (there is still quite a bit of blank space on the wall), but we could not have fit a larger canvas up our stairs. Also, I think the size of this piece is big enough that it will be a great fit in a future space, whereas something bigger could've been a future challenge.
I am so grateful to Meg for making us this piece that we will cherish forever, truly.
I ended up finding these perfect throw throw pillows to serve as a colorful pop and bring together the painting and coffee table. When I put them on the couch, I really felt like they instantly transformed the space; who knew that something as small as throw pillows could be so impactful?
The final big update is our new side table. Oh, what a journey this was, lol. I had a very hard time finding a side table that would work with how deep our couch is. We have a lot of open space next to the couch and it just felt like nothing could possible look normal in this spot. I was scouring online for hours on a daily basis for a few weeks, before I finally stumbled upon an antique gem on facebook marketplace for under $100. We picked it up from the cutest old man, and I'm in love with how the table looks next to the couch. The stars really aligned for this find!
I'll link everything in our living room below; of course, a space is never truly finished, but I am so happy with how it is looking right now. What do you think?
