Mexico Recap

Hello!!! This post is long overdue considering I returned back to school from my spring break trip to Mexico over two weeks ago, so I am excited to finally share my trip with you all! This trip is definitely going to remain one of the most memorable vacations I've ever been on, not only because it was my first time to Mexico, but because spending spring break with my best friends just couldn't have been more fun!

To give a little bit of background, I went to Mexico with my three roommates and four of our guy friends! One of the boys is from Mexico, so he is the main reason we got to go and he was the best host throughout the week. We can't begin to thank him enough for how much fun we had and all of the unique things we got to do during our trip!

Let's get into it!

FRIDAY, MARCH 15

Around 6pm our whole group came over to our (the girls') apartment to head over to the bus together. We took the bus from Madison to O'Hare at 7pm because our flight was at 3am out of Chicago. This was the last bus on Friday night and we got to the airport a little before 10pm.

SATURDAY, MARCH 16

We flew into Guadalajara out of Chicago. We ended up sitting on the tarmac waiting to take off until 5am, so we landed a little later than expected, around 9am. Then, three of us (myself included) didn't get our bags! This was frustrating, but they came the next day and it wasn't a big deal.

We went to our friend's house for breakfast and then headed over to his stables for a long horse ride! This was so much fun and we had a gorgeous view of Guadalajara heading up the trail. My horse, Conquistador, was amazing and so easy to ride. It had been quite a few years since I'd last ridden a horse and I'd almost forgotten how much I loved it!

After we made it back down the trail and returned the horses to the stables, our friend dropped us girls off at the hotel where we were staying for the night. We took a quick nap (considering we'd never really slept except for a little bit on the plane!), showered, and got ready for our night before he picked us back up. We had dinner at his house and then went out in Guadalajara!

SUNDAY, MARCH 17

On Sunday we woke up and our friend picked us up from our hotel to take all of us to a little spot on the side of the road for tortas ahogadas. You guys... these are basically sandwiches drowning in some sort of sauce and they're so delicious. We all ordered horchata too which was delicious!

After we ate, we hopped back in the car, quick went to the airport to get our suitcases that hadn't arrived with us, and then we drove to Tequila! The town of Tequila was roughly an hour away and it was so beautiful. Pretty tourtist-y, but so charming and fun. There were shops lining the streets, we saw the Jose Cuervo manufacturer downtown (outside pictured above), and we were staying at a hotel right in the plaza in the middle of the downtown for the night.

I wore this LoveShackFancy dress from Rent the Runway, my big straw hat (sold out, similar here and here), lace-up sandals, and my round wicker bag (only $35!).

Our friend has a friend who has a house in Tequila, so we walked from our hotel to his house and had a little barbecue in the afternoon before heading out that night. Our night out in Tequila was so much fun!

MONDAY, MARCH 18

We woke up on Monday and got breakfast in Tequila before driving to Puerto Vallarta. I wore this white dress (under $50!). The drive was supposed to take only 3 hours and ended up taking almost 7, so the majority of Monday was spent in the car.

When we arrived in PV we dropped our stuff at our resort, and then got fish tacos for dinner before heading back, playing Monopoly until like 2am, and falling asleep.

TUESDAY, MARCH 19

I think Tuesday was my favorite day of our trip. We woke up, got dressed in our beach clothes, and drove down the coast a little bit to hop on a boat and head to Casitas Maraika Beach Club. We had the best day on the little boat, grabbing lunch at the beach club, and then lounging around a beach that we had all to ourselves for a few hours.

I wore these DIFF sunglasses c/o, these beach shorts, this tie front bikini, and this gold zodiac pendant necklace.

We enjoyed great cocktails, delicious ceviche, and overall just had such a relaxing and fun time at the beach! I love swimming in the ocean, so I absolutely loved being in the water on this day.

Tuesday night after taking the boat back from the beach to our car, we drove to our resort and got ready to go out for the night. We went to a fun club and had a great time! I wore this LoveShackFancy dress from Rent the Runway.

WEDNESDAY, MARCH 20

On Wednesday we woke up and drove to Punta Mita to go surfing. I actually managed to get up on the board a few times, which was challenging but really fun! I initially wasn't going to surf but changed my mind at the last minute and I'm so glad I did.

I am wearing this one piece from Topshop! By far my favorite swimsuit of the whole trip-- it's so flattering and only $50! Also wearing this hat (similar here) and these sunglasses.

We had the cutest lunch after surfing at Makai Poke in Punta Mita. I had two different kinds of tostadas and they were delicious. Not to mention, the restaurant was adorable!

We went back to our resort and hung out for a few hours after surfing. Elizabeth and I found a man selling coconuts and had to have them. We all just lounged around for the rest of the afternoon before dressing up to go to a late dinner.

We initially planned to go to a different restaurant, but after driving around and not being able to find it, we settled for the restaurant at our resort. This ended up being the best decision because of their margarita deal, and we had an absolute blast. We went out afterwards and had such a fun night!

I wore this maxi dress from Rent the Runway.

THURSDAY, MARCH 21

On Thursday we had to leave Puerto Vallarta to head back to Guadalajara, so this meant another 7 hours in the car! We stopped along the way at a little market on the side of the road, and then went out to a club once we got back to Guadalajara.

The club was actually really cool with this neon hall of mirrors you had to walk through to get to the main area. I have no idea what it was called, but we had a ton of fun!

FRIDAY, MARCH 22

On Friday we spent the day at our friend's cousin's pool. I wore this LoveShackFancy dress from Rent the Runway and this one piece plunge swimsuit (sold out, similar here) with Jack Rogers.

He had so many little pomeranians!!!

Friday night we just hung out with all of our friend's friend group that was in town and it was such a fun last night!

SATURDAY, MARCH 23

We got tacos for brunch and then ice cream from the cutest woman at some little spot our friend knew about on a tiny street in Guadalajara. He drove us to the airport after ice cream, and that was that!

Overall, it was a packed trip and so eventful, and I couldn't have asked for a better spring break with my best friends!

What did you do for spring break?
