What's Been Going on Lately

Happy Sunday morning, friends! I apologize for only getting one post up this week, so I wanted to pop in today to share a little bit of what has been going on in my life lately to explain the absence around here. I hate to make excuses for my content and why lately it has failed to meet the quality standards you all deserve, and even occasionally, like this week, fails to go up at all. It's not that I have a million things going on in my life right now, because frankly I really don't, I'm not that busy, and my classes are not as hard as they have been in other semesters. Rather, somewhere in me the motivation is lacking, and for a lack of a better phrase, I've just found it really hard to get my sh!t together these last few weeks.

I haven't openly discussed my feelings towards Instagram and the algorithmic changes, but Instagram's ever-changing platform is starting to frustrate me to no end. Every time I post a photo, my following count drops, and the likes and comments seem to whither with each new post. It's so discouraging to see the numbers drop every time I post, so it makes me not want to post at all. Since this summer I have dropped over 800 Instagram followers, and the number keeps moving at a downward slope. I know Instagram should be about community and not the numbers, but as a blogger, when numbers make a difference in content you're able to create and share (like for example, being able to "swipe up" to a blog post or product I love on stories), it's discouraging to think that just publishing any content at all takes you further from your goals.

Another thing I want to address: I have felt very, very lost lately when it comes to my personal style. I know it has reflected on my blog platforms in terms of staying consistent, but it has also reflected in my daily life. My music taste is changing, little daily habits are differing, and I can't seem to figure out what I "want" or where I want to go in terms of who I am. It sounds cliche and kind of dumb, but I really feel like I'm all over the place and unsure how to get to a point where I feel complete and confident with myself. If any of you are in a similar boat (this is probably so common for girls in college!) I would love to chat or hear about what you're going through.

One more thing, totally random... my computer crashed again this week!!! I really did have every intention to post This Week's Top 10 on Friday morning as I do every week, but my laptop shut down Thursday afternoon (and wouldn't turn back on...) and I couldn't get into the Apple store until Friday. They were able to keep it overnight and fix some hard drive cable thing that wasn't firing correctly, but suffice it to say I am over having a laptop that moves slower than you can imagine-- and it's only three years old! I plan to get a new laptop this week and I already know without the added frustration in everything I do on my computer, blog posts should be able to come much more easily and more frequently.

I would love to hear if any of you are going through a little rough patch right now, too. It always helps to know that you're not the only one lacking motivation, inspiration, or just the ability to get it together!!

Have a great rest of your weekend babes!
xoxo

  1. Thank you for being so honest...life is crazy right now for me too. College can be tough but thanks for being so real and posting amidst your busy schedule. Keep doing you! Yes, I am so lost in my own style too...I am struggling with what is "me" and what my vibe is. I'm trying to go towards more classic and effortless looks like jeans with a button down with stan smiths that are chill but effortless and chic. On the other hand I want to be edgy and a little hip with my black jeans and my black chelsea booties with an army green jacket and beanie. Help! What are you trying to go for in terms of style? Thanks for your blog, I love it! I love how it talks about real stuff and I love learning and clicking on new trends and brands from you!

    1. Aw, thank you for your comment Julie! I totally feel you on just generally feeling "unsure" about your vibe, style, etc... some days I want to be Jane Birkin circa 1970, and other days I want to whip out a grungy band t shirt and distressed denim! The nice thing for us is, though, we don't actually have to "pick" and choose how we want to portray ourselves and our style for the rest of our lives. We get to live day by day, dress with our mood every morning, and do our own thing. I think I need to start seeing this as more of an opportunity to explore my style than limit it.

  2. Fran, we're vibing right now! As far as Instagram, except for stand out posts I'm losing followers and likes. I can't get above 200 followers despite my engagement and photo/feed quality and it's so frustrating. I've also been struggling with blog content to the point where I removed the style aspect from my blog because I couldn't put together/photograph outfits that represented me. Good luck!

    1. Lauren-- props to you for making a change and trying something new! Sometimes I think that's exactly what I need to do but I can get so stuck in my ways of creating content that I don't want to take any risks. Best of luck, girl!
