Love your links this week! My biggest piece of advice for college applications is to just force yourself to get them done. Set a time 3 or 4 times a week for 45 minutes or an hour where you''ll work on the questions and I promise it won't be that bad. Good luck with all of it! I know it can be stressful, but in the end it's one of the most rewarding processes.

Great post!! As for She Inside, I've never personally ordered from them, but one of my good friends does pretty often. She even got her prom dress from them I think! She says that the sizing isn't very uniform, but usually runs small. The quality isn't the greatest (you get what you pay for I guess) but her pieces have always shipped well enough and she seems pleased!
ReplyDeleteI've ordered on She Inside before and it took a good five or six weeks to get here. So if it isn't a time pressing piece then you should be good. I'm loving everything on JCrew too! So cute! I'm also just starting the Common App and I've discovered it isn't quite as bad as it seems. The scary part for me is all the essays. Good thing my first deadline isn't until October! Thanks for sharing!

I completely understand all the stress you're going through right now, as I was in your shoes this time last year! Here's my first piece of advice: I know you got this, girl! Now on to the real advice: try to get all your supplements done by the time you start school, or within the first 2 weeks of your senior year. Devote a few Friday nights to working on the Common App and supplements - grab your laptop, a bag of cookies, turn on SelfControl, light a candle, crawl into bed, and crank out everything. You won't have to worry about completing this on top of your extracurriculars and homework (keep those grades UP, and even raise your average if it's possible!) I promise, you'll feel invincible afterwards, and besides, you'll have much more time to wind down and relax with friends once you're a second semester senior ;). My second and probably biggest piece of advice is to create an Excel master spreadsheet, with the colleges you're thinking of touring/applying to, and the following columns: name of college, cost of tuition, distance from home/cost of travel, size of student body, class size (2019), average class/lecture size, TA vs. professor, interesting majors/minors, greek life (y/n), ACT range, SAT II (y/n), average GPA, small/large city/town, location, academic support, study abroad, mission statement, intense academics? (look on collegeconfidential.com for this!), acceptance rate, and any fun facts about this college. It really helped to see every variable about the colleges I was thinking of applying to in one place instead of sifting through the mountain of college literature that must be cluttering your desk right now! After I decided what places I definitely wanted to apply to, I made another Excel sheet, with different columns: supplements (y/n), supplements completed (ex: 0/3, 2/3, done, etc.) application fee (y/n), toured? (y/n), contacted tour guide/regional admissions officer? (y/n), contacted professor? (y/n), etc. (by November 1, try your hardest to make your answers to the last three categories "yes"!). I promise that if you do this, a ton of your stress will be alleviated!
ReplyDeleteAs far as book recommendations go, I just read In the Unlikely Event, by Judy Blume! It's probably the best book I've ever read, no joke. I also recently read East of Eden and All the Light We Cannot See, which are *almost* equally as good.
